My favourite image (if it is possible to have only one) is that of the stone angel (name???) in "Sabine's Notebook" - for more than one reason - firstly, because of the image, itself. It is one of purity, yet there is complexity behind it - in the drawing, the angel appears to be crying (innocence without naievity - very enigmatic). The other reason (part of the combination that draws me to the image) is the flipside of this page in the book - Sabine's correspondence with Griffin - "You have survived!" - she is relieved yet still suffers -filled with angst... now she may still join him, but will she ever??? The emotions in the drawing and the emotions in her words/thoughts are so perfectly tied in together here.
