Have the rules of voyeurism changed. I think that they have but not in the ways that matter. While we can now view peoples lives on television, it still provides little insight into their true minds. The thrill in G&S, Venetians Wife and the Forgetting Room wasn't reading diaries, letters and correspondence, the surface events of their lives and personalities. The guilty pleasure was in a view into the souls and thoughts of the characters. When tv provides this accurately perhaps sensitive exploration of the mind through writing will become obsolete. But not today!
